As we gear up for the trading year ahead, you need to mark your calendars with the list of trading holidays for 2024 in the equity and F&O segments.

According to the recently published stock market holiday calendar, traders and investors are in for a treat as 2024 outlines 14 trading holidays and seven extended weekends. The year kicks off with Republic Day on January 26, falling on a Friday and marking the beginning of an extended weekend.

March is the golden month with three holidays around weekends, creating extended trading breaks..

In March, traders can enjoy extended breaks around Mahashivratri on March 8 (Friday), followed by Holi on March 25 (Monday), and Good Friday on March 29 (Friday).

April, typically known for several trading holidays, has only two this year – Ramzan Id on April 11 (Thursday) and April 17 (Wednesday). But hold on, holidays like Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti and Mahavir Jayanti coincide with Sundays in 2024 as unofficial holidays.

May and June also maintain the rhythm with some holidays – Maharashtra Day on May 1 (Wednesday),  on 20 May (Monday) market will be closed for Parliamentary Elections, and Bakri Id on June 17 (Friday). July and August keep it cool, with Muharram on July 17 (Wednesday) and Independence Day on August 15 (Thursday). September marks a holiday-free month for traders.

Looking ahead, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 (Wednesday), Diwali on November 1 (Friday), Gurunanak Jayanti on November 15 (Friday), and Christmas on December 25 (Wednesday) are the upcoming market holidays. Additionally, the year concludes with Christmas on December 25 (Wednesday).

So, traders, mark these dates, plan those extended weekends, and don’t forget the one-hour Diwali Muhurat trading.
